Our story

Fresh food, not fast food —
built by family, for the neighbourhood.

01

A café run by family.

Nestled in the heart of Bolton, Café Chico is a proudly family-run café built on one simple philosophy: fresh food, not fast food. Every dish is freshly cooked to order using quality, locally sourced ingredients, including free-range eggs, with all meats being halal. Whether you're joining us for a hearty breakfast, relaxed brunch, artisan coffee or one of our homemade treats, you'll always receive a warm welcome.

The café we built with our own hands.

What makes Café Chico truly unique is the story behind the building itself. Rather than commissioning an expensive fit-out, the café was lovingly designed and handcrafted by the owner and her dad, who transformed the space by embracing the 3R principles — Regenerate, Reuse and Recycle.

From reclaimed timber and repurposed materials to restored furniture and creative design features, they breathed new life into what was once an empty shell — creating the warm, rustic café our customers know and love today. Every corner tells a story of creativity, sustainability and family.

More than a café — a community hub.

Our vision has always extended beyond serving great coffee and food. Café Chico was created to be a community hub that celebrates Bolton's rich multicultural heritage while inspiring sustainable living. Over the next three years, we aim to expand this vision by developing a true Farm-to-Fork approach — working with local growers, promoting healthy eating, reducing waste through circular practices and creating educational opportunities for families and young people.

We are passionate about building stronger community partnerships, supporting local businesses, creating opportunities for local people and encouraging environmental responsibility through sustainable initiatives.

"Great food can bring people together — but great communities are built through collaboration, creativity and care."

Our goal: a happy, healthy and engaged community where food, people and sustainability come together. From inclusive menus (gluten-free, vegetarian, vegan) to activities for children and families — Café Chico is much more than a café. It's a place where connections are made, stories are shared and everyone feels at home.

From the neighbourhood

Loved by the people next door.

We don't chase reviews — but when neighbours, regulars and the local press take the time to write a few words, we listen. Here's a small sample.

"Popular café's lovely gesture delights the community it wants to be at the heart of."

Hi Café Chico — just wanted to say thank you for a great buffet today. Top-class food, cheers.

The next buffet is definitely yours too (and the one after that, and the one after that…)

Brought my mum, my sister and all three kids — and for once, everyone found something they loved. The Full English was spot on, the kids' pasta went down a treat, and mum couldn't stop talking about her chai. Café Chico is the only place in Bolton that works for all three generations of us.

The American Special is god-tier. Three buttermilk pancakes, scrambled eggs, crispy lamb macon and real maple syrup — it's the kind of plate you stop halfway through to take a photo of. We've been coming back every other Saturday for nearly a year. No notes.

I'd never been to Bolton before — a friend at work said "you have to try the Full English at Chico's, it's the real thing." They were right. Proper sausages, proper beans, hash browns that actually taste of potato. Friendly staff, warm room, the lot.

As a Muslim family, we have to trust a kitchen before we can relax and enjoy a meal. Café Chico is fully halal, the staff are gracious about explaining ingredients, and my elderly parents feel completely at home here. That trust is rare — and it's why we come back every week.

We hired the party room for my son's 8th birthday. Aaliyah and the team set up balloons, sorted the food, kept the kids happy — and the parents got a proper lunch too. The price was fair and the room was spotless. He'll remember it for years. Thank you Chico.

Ordered through Deliveroo on a busy Tuesday and expected the usual sad delivery box. Not here — portions were generous, packaging was tight (no leaks), and the food still arrived warm. The French Toast with Nutella and fresh berries was a treat. Will be a regular order.

The 4.9 rating is well earned. I've eaten here four times over the last two months — once for breakfast, twice for brunch, once for the platters. Every visit, the food has been fresh, the coffee hot, and the atmosphere warm. That's consistency, and it's why we trust it.

For £8.95 the Full English is honestly a steal — proper plate, fills you up until late afternoon, and the sausage is clearly butcher-quality. Bolton's cost of living is rough right now; a place that still feeds you well at this price deserves the five stars.
